In 2000 the Finnish demoscene musician Janne Suni (also known as ‘Tempest’) won the Oldskool Music Competition at the Assembly demoparty. A musician called ‘grg’ remade the song and it is this that was stolen. The track in question is called ‘Do it’, produced by Timbaland and it is featured on the Nelly Furtado album ‘Loose’ on the Geffen label. Getting nowhere with Geffen, the demoscene has now risen to the aid of Tempest, first creating a stir at multiple internet sites. Here is a video illustrating the likeness of the two.

After watching the video, do you think Timbaland snatched this track? Makes you wonder how other people get stole on and how you can prevent it from happening to yourself.

Aaah!! This Timbaland stole on em! Sounds like a damn theme song for old school Nintendo games like Megaman and shit. Yeah man, at the very least he sampled the hell outta the track and chick deserves her due compensation for royalties in my opinion. But it’s the record label’s job to clear that sample. Not Tim’s. Maybe it was an oversight on his part to bring it to the label’s attention, but I don’t think that comes outta his pocket when he samples someone, usually the label covers for all that legal garbage for their artist.
I LOVE how all these sites out there are attacking Tim and smashing his name saying “HEY HE SHOULD BE PAYING!!!”, but get it right. Okay maybe he didn’t bring it to the label’s attention and maybe he should be paying a penalty to the label, but it’s GEFFEN WHO SHOULD BE PAYING THE ROYALTY BILL!

Afterthought: My opinion, he cleaned the hell outta that shit to be honest. Nobody would have EVER heard this track otherwise. Pay the girl her royalties and let he soak up her fame. Plain and simple. He did borrow ALOT from the track, but I mean, that’s hip-hop at the root of everything. You gotta admit, Tim DID make that shit hot.
