Video: EA Sports MMA Trailer
November 9th, 2009
More: , , ,

I caught this trailer on Saturday night during the Fedor Emelianenko-Brett Rodgers fight on CBS. I knew EA was working on their first MMA title, but this is the first video evidence. EA Sports MMA will feature a roster of fighters from the Strikeforce organization, so you will be able to play with names like Fedor, Jake Shields, Frank Shamrock and so on.

If I was THQ (makers of UFC 2009 Undisputed) I’d be shook with EA stepping into the MMA genre. UFC 2009 was a solid debut, but the game has some serious flaws, which eventually made me push it to the side. EA has deep pockets, and if they put enough resources into it I think they can produce the better game. The main thing THQ has going for them is the UFC license, so you won’t see some of the bigger names like ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Brock Lesnar, Rashad Evan in EA’s game, at least not for now. EA has a way of getting what they want, so I wouldn’t rule out seeing the UFC hooking up with them down the road.
